Whatever your needs, Patrick Australia can assist in crafting a custom metal die cast buckle or metal badge for you!

What is our process for creating custom metal belt buckles?

Metal belt buckles are typically made through a combination of manufacturing processes. The exact method may vary depending on the type of metal, design complexity, and the manufacturer's preferences. Here is a general overview of how metal belt buckles are made:

  1. Design and Prototyping

The process begins with the design of the belt buckle. This design is often created using computer-aided design (CAD) software. If you’d like to create a belt buckle, we can assist you at an step - whether you’ve got a loose drawing of your design or already have a final product, we can work with you to bring your design to life.

   - Prototypes or molds may be produced to test the design and ensure it meets the desired specifications.

  1. Material Selection

The choice of metal for your badge is a critical decision. Common materials for belt buckles include stainless steel, brass, zinc alloy, and pewter. You might also want a mixture of metal and enamel colours, like you can see in the image below.

  1. Die-Casting or Stamping

Die-casting is a common method for creating custom metal belt buckle shapes. It involves melting the chosen metal and injecting it into a mold (die). Stamping is another method where a sheet of metal is cut and shaped into the desired buckle form using presses and dies.

  1. Polishing and Finishing

After the buckle is cast or stamped, it goes through various finishing processes. This includes polishing, grinding, and deburring to smooth out any rough edges and imperfections.

  1. Plating or Coating

Many belt buckles are plated or coated to enhance their appearance and provide corrosion resistance.

   - Plating options may include chrome, nickel, gold, or other decorative finishes.

  1. Engraving or Embossing (if required)

Some belt buckles feature intricate designs, logos, or text. This can be achieved through engraving or embossing.

  1. Assembly

If the buckle design includes moving parts or attachment components, such as a prong, these are assembled to the main buckle piece.

  1. Quality Control

Each buckle is subjected to quality control checks to ensure it meets the required standards. This may involve inspecting for defects, correct dimensions, and finish quality. For over 80 years, the Patrick Australia name has been synonymous with providing high quality custom badges and products and we would love to work with you to create beautiful custom buckles.

  1. Packaging

The finished belt buckles are then packaged for distribution. This includes adding any necessary branding or labels.
